Family Mediation & Collaborative Law

Many people are concerned about the emotional and financial impact their separation will have on them, their families and particularly their children. There are alternatives available to deal with the legal implications of a separation from your partner which can minimise that.

“Chris Green has worked with me from the beginning. I found him to be very professional as well as both helpful and considerate. My claim is now complete and I am happy with the result. Should I find myself in a similar situation and needing help I would be more than happy to engage Chris to do the job.”

Two conflicting parties can sit together with someone independent to help resolve their family issues.

Many people have heard about mediation services.

A Family Mediator is independent of the parties, trained to assist you and your former partner in discussing and achieving resolution of the issues that are concerning you, whether it is about arrangements for children, money owing in relation to the family home, debts, income and even provide assistance with how discussions with your children can take place to minimise distress.

Family Mediators do not act for either party. They simply facilitate discussions in a controlled environment and creatively assist you both to achieve solutions to difficult situations where the legal process may not be of assistance.  Mediation is not suitable for everybody but it is certainly something that is worth discussing with one of our Resolution Trained/Accredited Mediators.

The alternative approach to resolving the disagreements you may have with your former partner is the Collaborative approach.  The Collaborative approach differs from the mediated approach in that each party appoints their own Collaborative Lawyer. Meetings are still dealt with by a round the table meeting in an attempt to move forward, openly discussing and agreeing a strategy for dealing with all of the issues surrounding their separation.

Family Mediation and Collaborative Lawyers adhere to a Code of Practice, which means that both parties can be satisfied that their best interests and more importantly those of any children involved are at the forefront of any discussions.

The advantage of a mediated or a collaborative approach is that it is usually dealt with much more quickly and hence most people find the process less distressing and less expensive.

Please contact our Collaborative Lawyer Lisa Moore to discuss should this be of interest to you.  Collaborative Lawyer Services are available across East Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire and Lincolnshire.
