Career History: LLB (Hons) 2:1 from Liverpool Polytechnic.
LSF (Law Society Finals)at Chester, College of Law in 1992.
Admitted as Solicitor in 1995. Joined Bridge McFarland in 2008.
Since then, Debbie has worked exclusively for accident and disease claimants from all over the UK but mainly from the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire regions. Since 1999, the vast majority of her work has been securing compensation for asbestos victims. She is one of the few solicitors based in the East Riding/Lincolnshire areas who specialise in this type of work and regularly receives referrals from other solicitors. She also represents families at inquests.
Asbestos claims require specialist knowledge. A general personal injury solicitor is unlikely to have the expertise required to pursue such claims. Debbie’s extensive local knowledge and contacts have, on many occasions, made the difference between winning or losing a claim. Over the years, as well as winning claims against existing well-known companies, she has traced insurers for companies and workplaces which no longer exist such as: Amos & Smith; Brigham & Cowan (Hull) Ltd, CD Holmes, Globe, Humber Graving Dock, Priestmans, Stepney Contractors, Stewart & Craig, to name but a few.
She has won compensation for people from many different trades and industries including shipyard workers, merchant navy seamen, construction/demolition workers, steel industry, chemical plant workers, power station workers, rail workers, electricians, joiners, plumbers, roofers, maintenance workers, council workers, chemists and office workers. She has also worked for family members who have developed the disease after handling contaminated work clothes.
In particular Debbie has extensive experience of representing dockworkers who have unloaded asbestos cargoes from the City boats as well as other vessels in the 1950’s and 1960’s in the port of Hull.
