4 Things to Consider when Divorce is Looming

Bridge McFarland LLP offers a free 30-minute consultation to anyone thinking about getting a divorce

Traditionally January is the most common month for people to leave their husband or wife and commence the divorce process.

Some 42% of all marriages in the UK will end in divorce but our specialist lawyers acknowledge it is never an easy choice.  We asked them for some tips for anyone thinking about getting divorced.

  1. Obtain professional advice at an early stage.  Even if you were just thinking and considering your options the advice can relate to practical steps as to how to organise your money and figure out your finances, as well as how to place yourself in the best possible position in the event of any separation.
  2. Once armed with some specialist advice talk to friends and family about the support they might be able to give you.
  3. Think carefully about the arrangements for the children.  What would you like to happen in the event of any separation?
  4. Gather together your financial paperwork.  Keep everything as safe as possible.  Your Solicitor will need to see copies of documentation relating to assets (bank accounts, pensions etc.) in your sole name or held jointly with your spouse.
