Baby Loss Awareness week runs from 9th to 15th October and is led by Sands, a UK stillbirth and neonatal death charity.

The charity work in partnership with healthcare professionals, Trusts and Health Boards to offer training programmes and bereavement care resources to ensure that bereaved parents receive the best possible care.

Tragically it is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies will end in loss (whether that is very early into the pregnancy, or later) so there is a significant need for this dedicated support.

In addition, the Tommy’s charity advises that in 2018 sadly around 8 babies were still born every day.

Lorraine Taylor and her team are accredited members of the Foundation for Infant Loss.  Lorraine is one of our Partners and is the head of our Clinical Negligence Department.  Being accredited members of the Foundation for Infant Loss provides our team with important training and experience to best support and assist bereaved parents..

The aims of Baby Loss Awareness Week are to:
- Commemorate babies lives and support bereaved parents and families
- Raise awareness about pregnancy and baby loss
- Drive change and improvements in care and support

Lorraine has said that “By speaking up and reaching out to friends and family for support in these upsetting circumstances more and more  families are coming to realise that they can be united in their grief, and that they do not have to go through it without support.”
