Bridge McFarland Announce New Charities for the Coming Year

Following a record breaking year of charity fundraising (May 2017-April 2018) that saw over £20,000 raised, staff at Bridge McFarland Solicitors are determined to match that amount again in the year to come.

24 different charities were nominated by members of staff at Bridge McFarland Solicitors, and all staff got the chance to vote for the winners. The results were all close with many admirable charities nominated, and the offices are geared up ready for some healthy inter-office competition over the next financial year.

Bridge McFarland Solicitors have two offices in Grimsby; they are coming together this year to support a very special cause. Charity ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ grants wishes to children who have life limiting illnesses, and one of the main events they run annually is a magical Polar Express steam train ride to visit the North Pole. It costs £400 per child to take a trip on the Polar Express, and the Grimsby Team is committed to fundraising enough to send 10 children to meet Father Christmas. Their plans include a charity quiz (back by popular demand), a sponsored walk, and a cheese and wine networking evening.

In Louth the team have chosen to support Prostate Cancer UK, and they are keen to get cracking with an assortment of different activities planned. The committee have set out their initial plans to include a ceilidh and a murder mystery night for the charity. Prostate Cancer UK invest millions of pounds into research every year – this includes research into easier ways to diagnose Prostate Cancer, better treatments, and enhanced means of prevention – their fundraising target is £3,000.

In Lincoln the team are supporting local charity LEAP – they are ‘Providers of housing and support services to vulnerable young people in Lincolnshire’ – this charity is based down the road from the Lincoln office, they provide safe and supervised housing and support to children aged 16 – 17 who have lost their families or been made homeless. One of their main goals is to break the cycle of ‘No Home, No Job; No Job, No Home’. The team in Lincoln are planning a large scale ‘sleep out’ event to raise funds as well as awareness about homelessness – their fundraising target is £3,000.

In Hull the new charity for 2018/19 will be the Dove House Hospice. Dove House do everything they can to make a persons last days as comfortable and vibrant as possible, they offer support to whole families. Last year the Hull team supported local charity Abbie’s Fund and raised over £7,000 - the team have set themselves a £5,000 fundraising target again this year but they would very much like to match the amount raised last year. The teams have until the end of April 2019 hit their respective fundraising targets.

After raising £7K more than their initial target last year the offices are all hoping to beat their record again in April 2019.
