Celebrating the long career of well known property lawyer, Cliff Goddard

Cliff started his legal career in 1972 and later qualified as a Licensed Conveyancer, and has been helping people buy and sell property ever0503 since.

Mention the name ‘Cliff Goddard’ in and around the Grimsby area you are sure to encounter one of countless people that over his long and successful career have benefitted from his advice and skill when buying or selling a property. After over 47 years in the legal profession providing fantastic service to his many clients, Cliff is now retiring.

Cliff knew that he wanted to do something within the property field, and after two years working in estate agency, commenced a Trainee Legal Executive course to qualify as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives  after becoming increasingly drawn to  the conveyancing process. Cliff started his legal career in 1972 and later qualified as  a Licensed Conveyancer, and has been helping people buy and sell property  ever since.

During his career Cliff has worked for several law firms as well as spending two and a half years within the Legal Department of Scunthorpe Borough Council prior to joining Bridge McFarland in 1994.

Cliff spoke fondly about his time in the industry:

“I have loved my time in conveyancing, I have come to know so many people in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area and I especially enjoy having people I have helped previously come back again.

I have recently, to my shock and amusement, been dealing with increasing numbers of the grandchildren of clients from my early days; it is that feeling of community that I will miss the most.

I’m a sociable person so this job has suited me, I will miss it in time but, for now, I’m just looking forward to going on a few holidays and spending more time with my family.”

Michael Searle, a Partner at Bridge McFarland LLP, said the firm would certainly miss Cliff: “Cliff’s experience has been pivotal to the development, expansion and success of the residential conveyancing team at Bridge McFarland over the past 25 years. Without him, the team wouldn’t be where it is today. He will be sorely missed, not only as a colleague, but as a friend.”

Debbie Conway is a fellow member of the Residential Conveyancing team in Grimsby: “I have known Cliff since the start of my career about 30 years ago. He is a very respected and popular figure in the world of conveyancing. He has been a joy to work alongside and his big personality will leave a big hole in the office. He has also occasionally been known to make the coffees. I will miss him dearly”.

Cliff is looking forward to spending more time on his favoured sports including tennis, table tennis, clay pigeon shooting and cycling. He is looking forward to going on some nice relaxing holidays with his partner and spending more time bird watching.
