Sleep for Leap - Annual Sleep-Out Event for Local Charity

The legal team at Bridge McFarland Solicitors will be braving a 12 hour 7pm-7am sleep-out challenge on Friday the 12th October along with staff from the local charity ‘LEAP’ in order to raise funds for their vital services.

LEAP, who you may have read about recently for their fantastic ‘Sincil Bank Community Art Trail’ project supports children and young people in Lincoln (aged 16+) who are homeless. The young people using the LEAP services are often in the care of the local authority having been removed from dangerous or neglectful domestic environments. This year the awareness raising and fundraising ‘Sleep Out’ event will be hosted outside the Bridge McFarland Solicitors offices situated in Sibthorp House on the lower High Street, Lincoln.

The challenge will be open for the public to take part in provided they register online, and pay a subscription fee – all the money raised will go directly to LEAP. The public are also invited to take part for the first hour or so if they don’t feel able to spend the whole night outside.

Confirmed guests include Karen Lee MP who will be joining the event in support of the charity.

This will be the second year that LEAP have had a 'Sleep for LEAP' challenge fundraiser, the first having taken place last year at Lincoln College. Last year 9 people slept outside Lincoln College from dawn to dusk in sleeping bags and on cardboard boxes to raise funds, this year Bridge McFarland have already confirmed double that number and they hope to engage more members of the public to join them on the night.

Heidi Walton, LEAP Chief Executive said “A staggering 20% of young people have had to 'sofa surf' in the last year because they have nowhere else to go – LEAP have over 40 bed spaces for young people, and they offer 24 hour support and advice to all their residents. By joining the ‘Sleep for LEAP’ challenge you will be helping even more young people access our essential services.

All funds raised by Bridge McFarland will go towards indispensable services for young people in city and the more people we get involved the more funds we will raise. Together we can make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people.”

The two organisations are inviting all local businesses to get involved in the project, there is an online donation page set up, and they are also asking local shops and restaurants if they can donate food, hot drinks or cardboard boxes for the volunteers over the course of the evening.

If you are interested in taking part in the event then head to the online ticket page here for more information and to book your space.

Adele Collis, Practice Manager at Bridge McFarland welcomes the local community to join the event “We hope that you are able to join us and take part in this challenge to raise funds for what is a wonderful cause. It’s going to be a long night but if we can raise enough money to help keep young people in safety it will be well worth it”.

Bridge McFarland’s Charity Committee in Lincoln supported Alzheimer’s’ Society last year, raising over £3,000. This contributed towards the huge total amount raised by the firm for charity last year, in excess of £20,000. They are determined to raise as much for LEAP this year as they did last year for Alzheimer’s’ Society.

Online sponsorships and donations can be made through the joint Virgin Giving page here.
